How to create a Japanese wave pattern in Photoshop?

Here I will show you how to create Japanese wave pattern in Photoshop which is important for graphic designing and textile design. So, let’s start.

How do you make a new document for wave Patterns?


First, create a new document. To create a document go to the file menu, now click on the new, where width is 2400 and height is 2400 pixels, Resolution is 72 pixels, the color mode is RGB, and the background content will be transparent then click ok.

How to create the very first Japanese Wave Pattern in Adobe Photoshop?

1. Go to the rectangle tool and select the polygon tool now click on your canvas and set width and height. It will be 1200/1200 pixels, and the number of sides is 10, smooth corner box will check on, the star box will check on, and the indent sides by: 20%, then click ok.

2. Set fill color it is Navy Blue and the stroke color will be white, stroke width of 10pt.
Now select the move tool and press Ctrl+ A to align your shape, after alignment press Ctrl+ D to deselect the area.

3. Now Go to the layer panel, right-click on the layer, and rasterize it. Press Ctrl+ J for the duplicate layer then press Ctrl+ T. Select the duplicate layer then set the width and height value it will be 75%/75%. Now select your main layer and again duplicate it, again set the width and the height value it will be 50%/50%.

4. Now go rectangle tool and select the ellipse tool, now click on your canvas and set the width and the height it will be 1200/1200 pixels.

Now set the fill color it will be Navy Blue, the stroke color will be white and the stroke width to be 10pt. After that press Ctrl+ T and set the width and the height it will be 25%/25%. Then place your circle in the middle of before 3 layers, Then right-click on the circle layer and rasterize it.

5. After that select the circle layer then select the rectangular marquee tool. Now place the ruler guide horizontally and vertically on the middle of the shape. After that through the rectangular marquee tool select the lower portion of the shape then right-click on the shape and click on a layer via cut option, now press the delete key on the keyboard.

Do the same thing for the next three layers.

6. Now select all layers then right-click on it and click on the convert to smart object option, and press Ctrl+ J to duplicate it. Now drag your layer vertically down and place it to the middle portion of the guideline, and set the ruler guide to both sides of the two shapes.

Then select your first layer and drag it on top. After that duplicate your top layer two times and place it on both sides of the bottom portion of the other shape.

7. Now through the color picker, pick navy blue color from the shape and create a new layer at the bottom of the all layers, here fill the color on the background layer.

8. Now select the 2nd top layer and press Ctrl+ T, Now select the top 2 layers and duplicate it. Now drag it vertically to the top and set it properly for the pattern.

After that selected 2 layers are dragged to the bottom of every layer except the background layer.

9. Now select your guided area through the rectangular marquee tool. Then Go to the edit menu, here select define pattern and save it.

10. After that Open a new document, Here width and height are 2400/1200 pixels, and the color mode will be RGB, here Background contents will be white, then click Ok.

11. In the last step go to the layer panel then open the layer lock. Now click on the new fill and adjustment option, here select pattern, then click on the drop-down menu and select your pattern, which you recently saved. Now set the pattern size it’s 30%, then click ok.

Now the pattern is Complete
