Here I will show you how to create Japanese wave pattern in Photoshop which is important for graphic designing and textile design. So, let’s start.
How to create a document for the Pattern?
First, create a new document, To create a document go to the file menu then click on the new, where the width is 1200 and height is 1200 pixels, Resolution is 72 pixels, the color mode is RGB, and the background content will be transparent then click ok.
How do you make the very first cross shape?
1. First, go to the rectangle tool then create a rectangle on the canvas. Now select the fill color it will be white and the stroke color will be none.
Now go to the layer panel and duplicate the layer, after that press, Ctrl+ T and set the angle value it will be 90°, and here select both layers and merge them.
Again press Ctrl+ T and set the angle value it will be <45°. Now go to the layer panel and right click on the layer and duplicate it 3 times.
2. Now select one layer and place it to the side of the main shape, then again select the other two-layer and place them on the bottom portion of the main shape.
Now Set the ruler guide to the horizontal top and bottom and vertically left and right portion of the shape.

Then hit on the rectangular marquee tool and select your guided area. Now go to the image menu and crop it.
3. Now go to the edit menu, here select define Pattern and save the pattern.
4. After that Open a new document, here width, and height are 1200/800 pixels, The color mode will be RGB, and the background contents will be white, then click Ok.
5. After that go to the layer panel and unlock the layer. Now Select the background layer to choose the color that you want to apply in the background, mine is blue, and apply it through the paint bucket tool.
6. In the last step, click on the new fill and adjustment option, then select a pattern, in the pattern window, here click the drop-down menu and select your pattern, which you recently saved. set the scale for the pattern it’s 40%. Then click ok.
Now our Pattern is complete.
